But like Age II DE with the once mighty Paladin, the dangers to French cavalry have increased as of late, and they're not as good a problem solver as they used to be. Having spies or block is a game ender, block in particular against players with infinite cards (food, wood, coin, and others).įor units the French have the best overall cavalry in the game, and average infantry and artillery. Now I was a treaty player for most of my history with this game, which means my deck is geared towards late game, even getting spies by 35 to 45 minutes in, and for that the card that swaps food for coin is paramount.
If nothing else, because French can simply Spam its problems away with cavalry. If by standard you mean the deck the game gives you, then I'd add a few cards that are paramount to French, even to this day - I don't remember the names exactly nor do I have an english version of the game so - the card that reduces train time for cavalry, and the card that reduces costs of Cuirrarsers are important.
Use the food provisions at the start to make some villagers, then collect food to age, minimize walk distance from food sources and bear in mind that hunted animals are better than berries due to collection rate. Age I is an age you want to leave as quickly as possible, so generally gearing your entire civ to go to II doesn't really change from Treaty games to Standard ones. The amount of villagers in each resource I can't tell you. This is true for most civilizations except Indians, Dutch, Japanese in some cases and Ottomans. Naturally, because French villagers cost food, you'll want to have more on food than on other resources as you age, since food costs are going to affect you more. The more time waste you shave off your play, the better. Minimize idle time and maximize use of everything you have. If that's hard to do, use Ottomans, they do that automatically. But like most RTSs, some basic rules apply (the non-basic would take an entire guide to give you) It's been over 10 years since I've played this game competitively.
